Details on Upcoming Limited Series Painkiller

The new Netflix limited series "Painkiller" is set to debut in 2023. It stars Matthew Broderick (as Richard Sackler), Taylor Kitsch (as Glen Kryger), Dina Shihabi (as Britt Hufford) & Uzo Aduba (as Edie). We do have confirmation that Clark Gregg did film some for the limited series.

Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster serve as the writers & showrunners behind the show. It is reported that the 8 episode limited series will have 60 minute episodes.

The limited series is about the origins of the Opioid crisis that continues to have damaging effects across the United States of America. Here is some context on the problem and what the series will cover in the series:

“Pain Killer, exposes the roots of the most pressing health epidemic of the twenty-first century. Powerful narcotic painkillers, or opioids, were once used as drugs of last resort for pain sufferers. Purdue turned OxyContin into a billion dollar blockbuster by launching an unprecedented marketing campaign claiming that the drug’s long-acting formulation made it safer to use than traditional painkillers for many types of pain. That illusion was quickly shattered as drug abusers learned that crushing an Oxy could release its narcotic payload all at once. Even in its prescribed form, Oxy proved fiercely addictive. As OxyContin’s use and abuse grew, Purdue concealed what it knew from regulators, doctors, and patients. Here are the people who profited from the crisis and those who paid the price, those who plotted in boardrooms and those who tried to sound alarm bells. A country doctor in rural Virginia, Art Van Zee, took on Purdue and warned officials about OxyContin abuse. An ebullient high school cheerleader, Lindsey Myers, was reduced to stealing from her parents to feed her escalating Oxy habit. A hard-charging DEA official, Laura Nagel, tried to hold Purdue executives to account. The series also uses material from Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America's Opioid Epidemic. A book written by Barry Meier.

The working title of the series was "TAMARACK" throughout its production. The series began filming in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Filming also took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada & New York City, New York. Filming took place on August 9th, 2021 through November 5th, 2021. The original wrap date was originally set for October but due to delays due to Covid-19, wrapping didn't happen until November.

While we are unaware of how many episodes Clark Gregg is in nor do we know what his character's name is at this time. On IMDB it is listed that Doug Morrow was the prosthetic make-up designer for Clark Gregg in the series which is also listed under Episode 1.

Netflix has described the limited series as Provocative with the maturity rating TV-MA (Gore, Language, Nudity, Sex, Smoking, and Substances)

In September of 2021, Clark did share this photo to his Instagram stories with the caption "Secret Project" and it does appear that it was in fact "Painkiller"
